From WLOS — The Brevard Cinderella season came to a painful close in Reidsville last night in the 2A western regional final in a 24-21 loss to second seed Reidsville.
Brevard jumped out to a 7-0 lead in the first quarter on an Isaiah Rathbone short touchdown run. Reidsville scored ten straight points to lead 10-7 at the half.
The 8th seeded Blue Devils, who had earlier knocked off the top seed and fourth seed, seemed to have the second seed Rams on the ropes in the second half. Rathbone scored on a short t.d. burst to give Brevard a 14-10 lead. Later in the third, it was Rathbone again on a 30 yard t.d. run along the sideline. Brevard led 21-10.
Reidsville cut the lead to 21-17 in the third period on a Jalen Galloway’s touchdown run. Brevard led 21-17 in the fourth quarter but fumbled the ball at their own 12 with 4 minutes to go and that proved to be the turning point of the game. A few plays later Reidsville capitalized and scored on a touchdown pass to make it 24-21. Brevard couldn’t answer and lost 24-21. The Blue Devils ended their season with an 11-4 mark.
